Teaching
As an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at McNeese State University, I have a 4/4 base teaching load (in addition to standard research and service requirements) and I teach an overload section of Biomedical Ethics and Decision-Making each semester for McNeese’s RN-to-BSN Program. I am also the advisor for the Philosophy concentration in McNeese’s Humanities BA Program.
Each semester, I usually teach three sections of Biomedical Ethics and Decision-Making, one section of Existentialism, and a fifth rotating course (e.g., Environmental Ethics or Introduction to Philosophy). I recently created and offered the first Environmental Ethics course at McNeese in Spring 2024.
My approach to pedagogy emphasizes student-led activities and discussion alongside participatory, Socratic lectures. For example, my Environmental Ethics students are required to undertake a service learning project with community members working on environmental issues, and to reflect and present on their experiences in relation to our course readings and discussion.
